Team BC wins first four medals
|
Team BC earned its first medals of the 2017 Canada Summer Games with a gold and two silver medals at triathlon. Diving also added to the medal total with a silver medal in the men’s 3M synchro competition.
Medal Results:
GOLD Triathlon - Desirae Ridenour (Cowichan Bay)
SILVER Triathlon – Hannah Henry (Victoria)
SILVER Triathlon – Michael Milic (Delta)
SILVER Diving 3M Synchro – Bryden Hattie (Victoria) & Ryan Grover (Victoria)

“I am just happy to come home with the gold and represent Team BC. And hopefully, this will carry other teams to win more medals for us.”
Preliminary competition got underway in Athletics with Rori Denness-Lamont (White Rock) finishing fourth in javelin. Jerome Blake (Kelowna) was first in qualfying for the 100m and both the 4x100m relay teams advanced to the finals.
Racing continued in Sailing and heats began in Rowing with eight boats advancing to the finals.
Pool play continued in team sports with baseball and softball both with double headers and games for the women’s basketball and soccer as well as both beach volleyball teams.

As a True Sport Event, the 2017 Canada Summer Games recognizes the belief that good sport can make a great difference, and the hope that the values of fairness, excellence, inclusion and fun will be at the heart of the 50th anniversary of the Canada Games.

Athletes can get out and cheer for your fellow Team BC teammates. Spectator transportation from the Athletes Village is now available. Talk to your Mission Staff for details.
More Good News! The Mayor of Winnipeg announced today that all accredited athletes, coaches, and managers now have free access to public transportation for the remainder of the Games.

Beyond the athletes, coaches, and managers that make up Team BC, there are 21 volunteer mission staff on site in Winnipeg. We are here to take on the duties that will help minimize distractions so you can concentrate on personal bests and podium performances. From overall operations and administration, to medical staff and mental performance coaches, to media and communications, we are here to make sure that all Team BC athletes have the best experience possible. We are here to help – watch for us around the Games, or come visit us at the Mission Office. Meet the team…
