Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame recently hosted the 2013 Induction Celebrations presented by the Canada Games and inducted eleven new Honoured Members including game-changing curler Russ Howard, sport development architect Dr. Jean-Guy Ouellet, versatile cycling champion Alison Sydor, five-time Paralympian André Viger, the 1992 Women’s Olympic Gold Medal Rowing Team – Coxless 4: Kirsten Barnes, Brenda Taylor, Jessica Monroe-Gonin, Kay Worthington and Jennifer Walinga, hockey visionary Murray Costello and hockey champion Joe Sakic. Induction into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame is Canada’s greatest sporting honour. With the Induction of the Class of 2013 last night, Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame will have a total of 540 Honoured Members.
“We are proud to honour the Class of 2013 this evening,” said Tom Quinn, Chairman of the Canada Games Council and Co-Chair of the 2013 Induction Celebrations, “They are truly an inspiring group of Canadian sport heroes. By sharing and celebrating their achievements, we aim to inspire all Canadians to be the best they can be in sport and life.”
The 2013 Induction Celebrations presented by the Canada Games were held last night in Toronto, and each Inductee was presented with their official Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame Honoured Member jacket. Dozens of Honoured Members will be in attendance, including Kurt Browning and several Team Canada ’72 Summit Series members such as Pat Stapleton and Paul Henderson.
“This evening, we are pleased to bring Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame’s 2013 Induction Celebrations presented by the Canada Games back to Toronto after three successful years in Calgary,” said Colin MacDonald, Chair of the Board of Governors of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame. “In returning to our roots in this city, we have the opportunity to recognize all of the individuals who played a part in our history.” Many of Canada’s corporate and sport elite will be in attendance at tonight’s event, including several of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame’s former Board of Governors, Honoured Member Selection Committee Members, leaders, partners, donors and supporters.
At Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame’s 40,000 square foot international award winning facility at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta, a Locker Room Gallery showcasing each of the members of the Class of 2013 will be opened. Each “locker stall” will feature artefacts on each new inductee for one year, until the Class of 2014 is inducted. All Canadians are invited to submit nominations for the Class of 2014
