Team BC Talks

Adam Fenton (Port Coquitlam) | Curling (X) | On winning their game in the first-ever mixed doubles draw at the Canada Winter Games beating Quebec 7-4
“There’s lots of nerves coming into a big game of the big event like the Canada Games – the inaugural year of mixed doubles. We were ready and nervous, but mostly excited.

On being up 5-0 early in the game
“When you get up early, you always have to keep the foot on the pedal. You have to have the champion’s mindset and keep on pressing, even when you are up.”

Bob Lee (Courtenay) | Coach | Curling (M) | on Team BC winning first two games at the Canada Winter Games
“It was an awesome day. We started a little slow this morning. There was some jet lag. We were getting used to the ice and conditions. We didn’t have a great game this morning, but we were able to pull it out. The boys played really well in the afternoon.”

On the rest of the competition schedule
We have a single game a day the rest of the week. That will be more relaxed. The boys should be good and focused on those games. We had to go 1 and 1 for sure today and two wins are a bonus.

Chris Parkinson (Comox) | Skip | Curling (M) | on first two wins at the Canada Winter Games.
“It feels great to be able to get the first two under our belt. We definitely had a bit of a rocky start this morning, but in the second half, we were able to pick it up a bit. We kept this afternoon’s game close and were able to get the win”

On a making a triple knockout shot in the 6th end
“It wasn’t looking good for us in that end, but we managed to get that shot after a few missed shots. We were able to move three rocks.”

On curling at the Games in PEI.
“I really like it here. It’s a dry cold. Lots of nice views and we have the curling club right next to the ocean. It’s very nice.”

(Note, Parkinson won a silver medal in m curling at the Ft. St. John 2020 BC Winter Games)

Garrett Seiver (Kelowna) | Cross Country Skiing | on finding success following his race plan
“The track here is super nice so I was feeling pretty confident knowing it wouldn’t be super tough going. I stuck with my race plan, held a pace the whole time, and emptied the tank out there.”

Logan Cox (Kimberley/Prince George) | Cross Country Skiing Para-Nordic | on coming away with gold in his first race at the 2023 Canada Winter Games
“It is super special to be here in PEI, and for the first race to go this well, I’m super excited. I had one of the best races of my life. We still have the rest of the Games to come and I’m hoping to keep this up, but I’m off to a great start. A big thanks to my competitors, Jesse and Felix, because no one else pushes me like [them].”

Amalia (Billy) Pelchat (Whistler) | Snowboard | on coming away with a gold medal in slopestyle despite two falls in qualifying
“I feel great! Qualifiers didn’t go as well as I hoped. I fell on both runs and was very surprised to make it to finals, but once in finals I had a good practice and my vibe was better, which I think helped me a lot. I am stoked!”

Tosh Krauskopf (Smithers) | Snowboard | on the run that earned him a silver medal in slopestyle
“I feel pretty proud. I’m still shaking after my run. I put down a run that I’ve always wanted to put down. It was tough on the course because getting speed was an issue for everyone, but I am stoked on silver.”
