Team BC Statement on move of Long Track Speed Skating to Fort St. John

The Prince George 2015 Canada Games Organizing committee announced today that the remainder of Long Track Speed Skating competition will be moved to Fort. St. John.

“We are obviously disappointed that the competition could not be held in Prince George but we recognize the tremendous efforts of volunteers over the past two years to prepare the venue here as well as putting in place a strong contingency plan,” said Rob Needham, Team BC Chef de Mission.

Team BC athletes have trained and competed at the Pomeroy Sport Centre in Fort St. John  so are familiar with the venue.

“Our athletes still have an opportunity to compete for a medal and are preparing to make the transition.  Team BC is focused on maintaining support to deliver optimal performances,” said Needham.

Team BC is working closely with the Host Society for a smooth transfer for our athletes and also connecting with family and friends to ensure they are able to watch and cheer on the athletes in person.
