Team BC archers come close
By Jonathan Wornell, Team BC Mission Staff
Today was the big day in archery competition with the compound and recurve finals. Team BC members felt good coming into today’s events and things started off well in the women’s compound with Emerie Watson (Quesnel) advancing to the bronze medal round after a streak of great shooting. In the end, she was happy with fourth place after a very tight battle for bronze.
“I was pleased with how my shooting got better and better through the morning rounds, and I will take that into tomorrow’s team event,” Watson summarized.
Teammate Tony Procter (Prince George) was eliminated from the compound final in the first round of competition. “I had a great couple of days before this which allowed me to finish second overall going into the finals, but I just wasn’t able to hit the 10’s I needed today to get me further,” said Procter. “But I’m stoked about tomorrow’s team event! Bring it on!”
In the recurve competition, both Mya Shouwenburg (Prince George) and Levi Kelbert (Kelowna) exited early in the final rounds, but not without putting up a tough fight. Kelbert came back from a 5-1 deficit to tie the round at five against a tough Alberta opponent, but in the one-arrow-wins-all decider, he couldn’t put his arrow closer to the center than the Albertan.
Tomorrow sees all four competitors take part in the exciting, no-holds-barred when it comes to noise, team competitions in compound at 9 a.m. and recurve at 2:30 p.m. at the Northern Sport Centre.
