Statement on the Newfoundland and Labrador wildfires

I am sure that many supporters of Team BC who are following the 2025 Canada Summer Games from home have heard the news about wild fires in the St. John’s area that are impacting the Games.

On behalf of Team BC, I want to offer our sincere sympathies and support to all those who have been affected by the fires. We in BC understand the impact fire has on our communities and loved ones, and our thoughts are with you. I want to recognize the members of Team Newfoundland and Labrador, who are continuing to be welcoming hosts and fierce competitors in spite of these challenges.

In response to the evacuation preparedness alert issued Monday by the Towns of Paradise and Conception Bay South, the 2025 Canada Games Host Society has made several changes to the sport schedules for Beach Volleyball, Box Lacrosse, Sailing, and Soccer. These changes are being made out of an abundance of caution to ensure that the Games can continue in complete safety without impacting the vital work of provincial emergency services.

Team BC appreciates the hard work of the Host Society staff and volunteers in response to this very difficult situation. I am confident they are doing everything they can to ensure all participants continue to have a positive Games experience.
