Golfer Austin Krahn builds on breakout summer with double gold at Canada Summer Games

Austin Krahn’s summer just keeps getting better.
The Chilliwack golfer arrived at the 2025 Canada Summer Games riding a wave of confidence after a July for the record books, winning three consecutive provincial championships—including the 2025 Indigenous B.C. Men’s Championship in Cranbrook. By the time the competition wrapped up in St. John’s, he had added another major milestone to his résumé: Canada Games gold in men’s golf, along with a team gold medal for Team BC.
“It’s really cool,” Krahn said after stepping onto the podium draped in the B.C. flag. “Anytime you get honoured at a national level like that and you get to represent your province, it’s so special. You feel like an Olympic athlete out there, and it’s something I’ll remember for a long time.”
For Krahn, the victory was more than a single shining moment—it was the culmination of a summer of hard work, resilience, and consistency that has established him as one of the brightest young golfers in Canada.
Krahn’s golf journey to the top of the podium began at age four, when his parents introduced him to the sport. Though he tried multiple sports growing up, golf quickly stood out.
“I love how everything I do is controlled by me,” Krahn explained. “If I fail, it’s on me. If I succeed, it’s on me. I also love the pursuit of perfection. You can practice every day and never quite find it, but I love trying to get closer.”
That focus and dedication now drive a training routine that often starts with a morning shift at his family’s golf course before he heads to the range, chips and putts for hours, and plays a full round to sharpen his competitive edge. “The best feedback you can get is on-course feedback,” he said. “That’s why I make it a priority to play 18 holes every day I can.”
His family has been a major influence in shaping both his game and his mindset. “My parents have always supported me and pushed me toward my dream of becoming a professional golfer,” he said. “My brothers have also been great influences, helping me become not only a better athlete, but a better person.”
Though his spring season was rocky, Krahn turned things around in July, claiming back-to-back-to-back provincial titles: the B.C. Junior Championship, B.C. Men’s Amateur, and the Indigenous B.C. Men’s Championship. Those wins gave him a boost of confidence heading into the Canada Games, where he showcased his trademark consistency.
“Austin’s superpower is that when he’s playing really well, he just doesn’t make mistakes,” said Team BC golf coach Connor Kozak. “He wears down golf courses, puts himself in good positions, and relies on his putting, which is one of the strongest parts of his game. We knew it was just a matter of time before the putts started to drop.”
Krahn’s steady play paid off, earning him top honours in the men’s competition, while teammate Jenny Kwon earned bronze in the women’s individual event. Together, Team BC captured the overall team gold medal.
For Krahn, the Games offered a unique change of pace from the typical golf tournament grind.
“Usually it’s play golf, go home, go to sleep,” he said. “Here, you go cheer on BC volleyball or soccer, watch other sports, and get inspired by other athletes. It’s such a cool environment, and something I’ll carry with me for a long time.”
He credits the strong camaraderie within the golf team as a key factor in their success.
“The chemistry off the course really helps you on it,” he said. “When you’re having fun with your teammates and supporting each other, it makes a big difference.”
Next up for Krahn is a trip to Ontario for the Team Canada selection camp, where he hopes to earn a spot on the national team once again. But for now, he’s taking time to appreciate a summer he won’t soon forget.
“To have three provincial titles, play well at national events, and then win at the Canada Games—it’s been incredible,” he said. “I feel really blessed to be able to do what I do.”
