Exciting finish to competition for Team BC archers

By Jonathan Wornell, Team BC Mission Staff

“I love this event,” said Team BC’s Tony Procter (Prince George) at the start of today’s team compound competition.  “Anything to get the crowd into the action is great,” he continued.  While his teammate Emerie Watson (Quesnel) wasn’t quite as vocal about her enthusiasm for this event, it was definitely apparent after they sealed Team BC’s first archery medal, a bronze, in the event.

“The team event is a lot of fun”, said Watson.  “The crowd is trying to make as much noise as possible to distract the shooters, so it forces us to focus harder on our shots and block out the noise.”  Procter and Watson edged out Team New Brunswick by a single point to take the bronze medal.

In the team recurve competition, teammates Levi Kelbert (Kelowna) and Mya Shouwenburg (Prince George) weren’t quite as lucky. The pair weren’t able to advance past the first round.

Overall, coaches Linda Price and Ron Ostermeier were very proud of how the team did this week.  “This was a great experience for the kids,” said Ostermeier “They learned a lot from it.  We’ll be looking forward to the next Games to come in 2019!”
