A good luck charm for Team BC’s women’s 4x400m relay team
Some old temporary tattoos may have helped Team BC’s 4x400m women’s relay reach the top of the podium at the University of Manitoba Stadium Friday evening.
Each member of the team placed a blue Team BC tattoo on their left cheek – the side they receive the baton in relay. “My coach from SFU back home gave me a bag of really old Canada Games pins,” said Sophie Dodd (Vancouver), who ran the third leg of the race. “And inside, we found four of these tattoos. So, we brought them out today. It was good luck.”
She said the team members wanted to be united for their final race of the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg. “We all wore the cropped jersey. We all wanted to look the same and feel good together.”
Dodd also competed at the 2010 BC summer Games.
Team BC women won the 4x400m relay in a time of 3:43.35. Manitoba took silver and the bronze went to Ontario.
Team BC men also took gold in the 4x400m relay.

On winning double gold in the 4x400m relays
“It feels fantastic. At the end of the day, it’s them running, not me. I just pick the team. It means we’re strong on the West Coast. We have lots of good athletes. We’re showing lots of heart at the end of a long track meet. It makes everyone proud on the West Coast.”
