Team BC began the first day of competition at the 2017 Canada Summer Games on Saturday with basketball, baseball, soccer, and softball games on the schedule.
Basketball
Women: Team BC 83 Team Newfoundland & Labrador 69
Men: Team Ontario 92 Team BC 73
Both the men’s and women’s team started play in basketball. The women’s team played a back and forth game against Team NL and came out on top with a 83-69 win. The men were facing a formidable team from Ontario and opened strong leading in the first half but eventually dropped the Game 92-73.
Baseball
Team Alberta 12 Team BC 2
Team BC 8 Team Quebec 5
A double header had Team BC up against Team Alberta to start the tournament. A shaky start put them behind eventually losing 12-2. The second game was a marathon three and a half hours but, Team BC pulled out a gritty win 8-5 against Quebec.
Soccer
Team BC 1 Team Newfoundland & Labrador 0
The women’s soccer team started play against Team NL in a game televised live on TSN. It was a close battle but, Team BC had the advantage with many close chances. In the 72nd minute, Tegan McKay (North Vancouver) scored off a beautiful corner by captain Emma Regan (Burnaby) to take the win 1-0.
Softball
Team Alberta 8 Team BC 6
Team Ontario 14 Team BC 0
Men’s softball has a tough first day with a double header against powerhouses Team Alberta and Team Ontario. The team had two losses to start the tournament but are keeping positive and ready to take on Team PEI and Team Manitoba on Sunday.
Action continues Sunday with more team game play as well as the start of mountain biking.

Three important reminders from Team BC Medical Manager, Philippe Saucier:
