25 medals for Team BC on the final day of week one competition |
During the final day of action for week one, Team BC earned 25 medals including 13 gold, eight silver, and four bronze.
To start the day, Team BC triathletes earned gold in the mixed relay event capping off a six medal performance for the Games. Desirae Ridenour (Cowichan Bay) was the golden girl of triathlon with three gold medal performances.
The rowers added another seven medals to finish with 14 total. Team BC earned a medal in every event in rowing.
After delays in the schedule due to a thunderstorm that moved through the area, the afternoon saw a medal haul as the track and field team lit up University Stadium with 11 medals including eight golds. Jerome Blake (Kelowna) won gold in the 200m to go with his silver in the 100m from yesterday. He then added another gold with the men’s 4x400m relay. The women’s 4x400m team also won gold.
On the beach volleyball courts it was a bronze for Quincy Birker (Langley) and Darby Dunn (Kelowna) which set the stage for a gold medal performance for the men’s team of Isaac Bevis and Jeff Webb of Nanaimo.
The men’s baseball team finished fifth with a win over Team Quebec. The game was called with only three outs left due to the weather. Men’s basketball fell to Team Quebec and finished the tournament in fourth.

After the final day of competition for week one sports at the 2017 Canada Summer Games, Team BC has 61 medals and sits in second place in the medal standings behind Team Ontario.

BC Day at The Canada Games Festival
|
On Saturday, August 5, it’s time to celebrate British Columbia at the Canada Games Festival. The Main Stage at the Forks features a showcase of exceptional BC talent hosted by country music singer Madeline Merlo. On the Satellite Stage, check out music and dancing performances, and a short animated film about sailing off the coast of BC entitled "Distant Islands". The evening will end with a fireworks show at 10:30 pm.
