Team BC sits in second place in medal standings
|
Team BC won another five medals today and is sitting in second place in the medal standings with 145.
This second to last day of the Games saw the conclusion of swimming with the 5000m long distance race. This was supposed to be an open water swim but due to the water conditions at the original venue, the race was moved to the Pan Am pool where the athletes completed 100 laps.
Team BC’s Raben Dommann (North Vancouver) won his fifth gold medal of the Games and completed his sweep of the long distance events. Acacia Benn (Penticton) added a silver in the 5000m which was her fifth medal of the Games.
Tennis earned two bronze in the men’s and women’s doubles events to finish off their tournament with three medals.
The exciting cycling criterium saw Gillian Ellsay of Courtenay win her second gold of the Games.

Volleyball Men – Team BC 3 Team Quebec 2 (25-17, 25-23, 21-25, 24-26, 17-15)
The last day of the Canada Summer Games will feature the gold medal women’s softball game where Team BC will play Team Alberta for gold at 9:30am (Central). Tune in to watch live on TSN2.

Team BC Closing Ceremony flag bearer announced |
Team BC has selected Raben Dommann to carry BC’s flag in the 2017 Canada Summer Games Closing Ceremony.
The North Vancouver swimmer powered his way to eight medals, including five golds in the Pan Am Pool, part of the BC swim team’s 52-medal haul at the Games.
He won all the freestyle long distance races: 400m, 800m and 1500m as well as the 5000m race – swimming 100 laps in under 57 minutes. He also won a bronze in the 200m freestyle race. In addition to his individual races, Raben contributed to a trio of medals (gold, silver and bronze) in relays with his teammates.
Raben is an important leader on the swim team and is willing to step in any role. With his positive attitude, he certainly contributed to Team BC’ success in the pool this week in Winnipeg.

BC’s Canada Games Activity Challenge winner takes in the Canada Games |
The Canada Games activity challenge was launched to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Canada Games and kids across the country took part and got active with their schools. One winner from each province was awarded with a trip to the Canada Games.
BC’s winner, Nyla Battle and her mom Shannon arrived Friday in Winnipeg and were treated to a pizza party and tour of the Kid's Museum at the Forks. These two fans then took in Team BC winning bronze in volleyball. Tomorrow they will attend the Closing Ceremony and cheer on Team BC as they parade into the stadium and celebrate the official closing of the 2017 Canada Summer Games.
