On the pitch, the women’s soccer team took gold at the Syncrude Athletic Centre in Timberlea, beating Manitoba 3 – 1.
Captain of the women's soccer, Jessica Williams from White Rock, expressed her feelings towards the final gold medal game.
"We played excellent in the tournament and I am really proud of our team to have made it this far." Jessica felt the need to step in and lead the team for the final match since head coach, Gary Moody had to depart early from the Games to other commitments. "It was hard not having him there and I felt it was my job to lead the team and step in as a captain."
Jessica says this was by far one of her best experiences with her personal soccer career so far.
From the beginning, the gold medal game was what they were aiming for and finished with storybook ending.
Jessica quotes "Its not a sprint, its a marathon, you have to work through all the obstacles to finish, and I knew we could do it."
In the men's were tied throughout regulation play with Alberta, and headed into overtime 0-0. It was a heartbreaking penalty shot in the second overtime that would give Alberta the win and BC the silver medal.
