Team BC stepped outside of their comfort zone on the opening day of snowboard competition at the 2015 Canada Winter Games. The predominantly snowboard cross-focused team rose to the challenge of competing in parallel giant slalom, the first snowboard event of the Games. Seven of the riders qualified to race in the round of 16 this afternoon at Purden Mountain. Among them, Katie Anderson
(Jaffray) qualified for the quarterfinals and achieved a top eight result.
“It’s my first Canada Games,” said Anderson. “I was a little nervous at first because this is an event that I don’t normally do, but then as I got going I got more comfortable and it was actually super fun. I was pretty happy with how I finished, it was better than I expected.”
The slope style riders will compete on Friday and snowboard cross takes place on Saturday at Tabor Mountain. Both events have qualifications in the morning and finals in the afternoon.
