Vikes Swimmer McKay Honoured with National Scholarship
VICTORIA - University of Victoria Vikes men's swimming rookie Jon McKay received the prestigious Victor Davis award at Swimming Canada's Big Splash Awards week, held in Toronto, Ont. on Nov. 24. The award is presented to six athletes annually and provides support to those aiming to achieve success at the international level.

Each winner of the award receives a bursary from the Victor Davis Memorial Fund, which was established to remember the four-time Olympic medalists' contribution to competitive swimming. The award is presented to promising, high-performance Canadian amateur athletes as a way of providing support in their training, education and pursuit of international medal accolades.
McKay is coming off an impressive Canada Games performance this past summer that saw him netting three medals for Team B.C., including a personal-best, record-setting 1500-metre freestyle performance that saw him posting a time of 15:40.35 to earn gold. He also captured two bronzes in the 800-metre and 5000-metre freestyle races.
A total of 98 swimmers have been presented with the award since its inception in 1990, including Olympians and Vikes swimmers Stephanie Horner and Ryan Cochrane.
