Coach Conversation: Team Rempel finishes strong at Canada Winter Games

Coach Wendy Cseke (Kelowna) is proud of the Team BC female curling team’s first Canada Games experience.

“We had some struggles out there on the ice,” says Cseke. “But overall, we had a really good time and did our best.”

BC beat PEI 10-6 in its final game to earn a seventh place finish.

She says it was easy to be the leader of the team because of the support from Team BC Mission Staff. “They really guided us and helped us along.”

Cseke explains the team members from Kelowna were focused on their games, but did find some time to have some fun. “My girls were really amazing. They all wanted to be in bed by 8:30. I was not chasing them.”

When the curlers weren’t busy making shots on the ice, they watched other sports such as trampoline and squash.

Now that the bonspiel portion of week one of the 2023 Canada Winter Games is over, Ceske and the curlers will make the most out of being at the Games.

“We may not bring back a medal, but we are going to support our other athletes now and cheer really hard.”
