Team BC Mission Staff Training

Team BC Mission Staff Training

For the first time since the Team BC Mission Staff for the next Canada Summer Games were selected in September 2020, an in-person training camp was held. The team gathered in White Rock for two days of team building, training of roles, and Games planning.

Normally held within 6 months of Mission Staff selection and 10 months ahead of the Canada Games, the training camp serves as a key milestone and rallying point that promotes team cohesiveness and builds excitement for the Games.

Despite the 2021 Canada Summer Games in Niagara being postponed until 2022, Mission Staff have shown tremendous commitment to their role as the “the team behind the team”, which they hope will translate into a successful Games for Team BC come next August.

“The weekend was a huge success,” said Team BC Operations Manager, Jarret Poitras. “Being able to finally bring everyone together face-to-face, for a full weekend schedule of team building and training was fantastic. You can really feel the energy that this team will bring to Niagara. I couldn’t be more pleased or appreciative of the crew that we have.”

The training camp included the following:

  • Values and Goal Setting - facilitated by Mental Performance Coordinator, Carl Nienhuis

  • True Colors Training

  • Team Building Activities - facilitated by Pinnacle Pursuits

  • Team social: Vancouver Whitecaps vs. FC Dallas

  • Mission Staff Information Session

The next training camp will be held next Spring, where Mission Staff will be provided with full details pertaining to the Games. The focus for this second training camp will be on detailed training and education around roles, responsibilities, and expectations, as well as Games scenario training.
