Today was a travel day for Alpine ski. The team travelled from Kananaskis all the way to Red Deer to join up with the rest of the Games. The team left Kananaskis at 9am this morning. As a fun team activity, the team made a pit stop in Calgary at Speeders race track to do some go-karting! The team had a great time racing go-karts as a change to speeding down a ski hill. The fastest go-karter was coach Johnny Crichton (Kamloops). All of the coaches got on the podium along with one athlete, Taylor Nellis (Burnaby) who came first in his group. It was a clean sweep for Team BC on the race track podium today.
Once the team made it to Red Deer, they became fully immersed in the Games. They checked into their new accommodations with some of the other team BC athletes and spent the afternoon exploring Red Deer College. The team is excited to meet the other athletes and check out everything going on in the Athlete Village - especially the pet therapy!
Tomorrow, the athletes will have a training day at Canyon Ski Hill to train for their Ski Cross race that will take place on Mar. 2. Some of the athletes have never done ski cross before and are very excited to try it out. Welcome to Red Deer, Alpine!
