A tip of the (Team BC) hat

Dear Team BC Athletes:
As some of you depart Prince George after week 1, we welcome the next wave of Team BC athletes to Prince George this Sunday. For the new arrivals, we’d like to help you prepare for your time here so we’ve asked a number of the extended Team BC team for some tips to share with you.  We encourage all athletes, coaches, parents and mission staff to continue to post their athlete tips on Twitter, tagging #TBCathletetips

From #TBCCaptain (Kelsey Serwa, Honourary Team BC Captain)

“These Winter Games are the pinnacle of amateur athletics in Canada, and participating at this level of competition is note-worthy all on its own.  I feel privileged to have had the opportunity of competing among Canada’s best in 2007 and to continue that journey with some to the world stage at the Olympics – this is the same path and many current athletes at these Games will follow. For athletes of the past, present and future, the Canada Winter Games primes us for success.”

From #TBCParents
•    Become more of yourself here in Prince George – you are here for a reason, remember that, and bring it to life by being the best of you that you can be
•    Your parents, family and friends are proud that you are representing the province amongst the best in the country – that is enough, a good performance is the icing
•    Smile, you’re always on camera – our camera!
•    Be prepared….we will cheer louder and wear more Team BC gear than ever before!

From #TBCMissionStaff
•    Go cheer on the rest of Team BC – it’s a great chance to experience other sports and meet other athletes
•    Use pin trading as an excuse to meet other athletes, coaches and volunteers
•    Don’t trade all your pins at once – they are like currency here at the Games so trade them wisely
•    Label all your Team BC clothing – easy to mix them up so this helps
•    Hold your scarves close – they are hot commodities here!
•    Use the energy from the crowd cheering – it’s loud out there!
•    Use a personal luggage tag – mark you name, sport, phone number VERY CLEARLY

From #TBCAlpine
•    Bring food
•    Go to bed early
•    Get the bottom bunk
•    Get the big bed
•    Don’t eat the same thing every day
•    Try to sleep as much as you can
•    Call first shower
•    Don’t expect results right away. Be mentally focused.

From #TBCCurling

Nick Umbach, Curling
“Go and check out the other venues and get to know the other athletes.”

Tim Henderson, Curling
“Give yourself enough time to get to where you need to go.  Be early!”

Tyler Tardi, Curling
“The penne alfredo pasta in the cafeteria is great!”

And finally – Congratulations to Week 1 and Good Luck to Week 2!!!
