Team BC Alumni set to shine at the Commonwealth Games

The XXI Commonwealth Games are taking place in the Gold Coast of Australia from April 4 to 15, 2018.  There are 283 athletes competing for Team Canada and within that contingent there are 46 BC Games and Team BC alumni.  This includes 34 athletes who have competed at a BC Summer or BC Winter Games and 24 who have competed for Team BC at the Canada Games or Western Canada Summer Games (11 athletes have competed at both).

Alumni are competing 11 sports including athletics, basketball, cycling, diving, field hockey, gymnastics, rugby, shooting, swimming, table tennis and triathlon.

Many 2016 Olympians are leading the Canadian contingent such as Evan Dunfee (Richmond), Alyxandria Treasure (Prince George) and Michael Mason (Nanoose Bay) in athletics along with Hillary Caldwell (White Rock) and Markus Thormeyer (Tsawwassen) in swimming.

Three medalists for Team BC from the recent 2017 Canada Summer Games are making their international Games debut in Australia – Desirae Ridenour (Cowichan Bay) in triathlon, Bryden Hattie (Victoria) in diving and Jay Lamoureux in cycling.
